Radon Lung Cancer Has Stronger Regulations

Radon Lung CancerThere has been a strong push from a group of organizations known as the Federal Healthy Home Works Group to improve the safety of homes in Bloomfield, MI and across America. The group is made up of the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. By combining forces this group of powerful organizations are able to pull resources and efforts together to make an exponentially larger impact.

Recently, there has been a strong push from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, to improve the safety of homes in regard to radon gas. HUD has just recently made it mandatory for all multi-family homes financed through HUD to have a radon test. The test is necessary as this gas does not have a smell, and is invisible. In addition to testing, multi-family homes financed through HUD that test with high levels of this gas will be required to have a mitigation system installed to reduce the amount of gas in the Bloomfield home.

If you have ever rented a home in Bloomfield, MI, then you know that you do not always get to make the decisions as to what should be repaired, or how well items in the home are maintained. Through HUD’s regulation, it will now be mandatory that many homes are required to have this safety precaution taken. This is a tremendous help as the dangers of radon gas are quite serious.

Stats on Radon Lung Cancer in Bloomfield

Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer across the United States. Radon lung cancer reduction is a huge step in the right direction. To put it in perspective, 21,000 people die each year from radon gas, making it a serious health threat. This number of deaths is larger than the number of annual deaths from drunk driving. Bloomfield residents should be extremely cautious of this gas, and test their home to take the necessary action depending on the gas levels their home has.

Radon gas forms from deep in the soil beneath your home from the breaking down of uranium. As the gas is created through this naturally occurring process, it may seep through your foundation, or into your water supply. No matter how the gas enters your Bloomfield home, the necessary action needs to be taken to test and remove it as needed.

The American Lung Association applauds the actions taken by HUD to reduce radon gas, and improve radon lung cancer and safety throughout the United States. It is also noted that these mitigation systems will not only improve the safety of Bloomfield homes by having extra ventilation in the home to reduce moisture and other gases. S.W.A.T. Environmental is extremely pleased with the actions of HUD, and hopes to make this world a safer place one home at a time.
